چکیده
The motivations and the status of the K20 survey are presented. The first results on the evolution of massive galaxies and the comparison with the predictions of the currently competing scenarios of galaxy formation are also discussed.

We investigate the relation between the characteristics of the circumnuclear stellar population and both the galaxy morphology and the presence of close companions for a sample of 35 Seyfert 2 nuclei. Fifteen galaxies present unambiguous signatures of recent episodes of star formation within ≈300 pc from the Jansky Fellow Gemini Fellow

The coalescence of massive black hole binaries is one of the main sources of low-frequency gravitational radiation that can be detected by LISA. When two galaxies containing massive black holes merge, a binary forms at the center of the new galaxy. We discuss the evolution of the binary after its separation decreases below one parsec. Whether or not stellar dynamical processes can drive the bla...

We present a measurement of the microlensing optical depth toward the Galactic Bulge based on 4 years of OGLE-II survey. We consider only bright sources in the extended Red Clump Giant (RCG) region of the Color-Magnitude

We present results from the Las Campanas Infrared Survey, designed to identify a statistically significant sample of z > ∼ 1 galaxies using photometric redshift techniques. Here we summarize the design and strategies of the survey and present the first estimate of the galaxy luminosity function at z > ∼ 1 based on H-band selected galaxies identified in our survey. Results of number count studie...
